Over the past decade and a half The Bronx Defenders has become one of the pre-eminent public defender offices in the country.At the same time, the Summer Internship Program at The Bronx Defenders has become a highly regarded and popular learning experience for law, graduate and college students from across the country. The Recruiting and Hiring Manager will lead The Bronx Defenders’ annual recruiting and hiring efforts to fill available staff, fellowship and internship positions. Additionally, the Recruiting and Hiring Manager will work with the Director of Staff Development to understand current and future staffing needs and develop strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing organizational recruiting and hiring efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate the annual recruiting and hiring process to ensure The Bronx Defenders attracts competitive candidates for the Training Team, Fellowships, and the Summer Internship Program
- Work with Director of Staff Development, and Managing Directors in narrowing applicants for interview process; correspond and communicate with applicants accordingly
- Administer the interview and selection processes by determining the schedule, communicating same to applicants, scheduling all interviews, convening and preparing members of the appropriate hiring committee; assisting with communicating final decisions to applicants
- Assist the Human Resources Manager, Managing Directors and Director of Staff Development with on-boarding new hires, including but not limited to, coordinating start dates and determining team placement and seating assignment.
- Execute administrative functions related to organizational recruiting and hiring efforts, including but not limited to, drafting position descriptions, posting and disseminating position vacancy announcements, managing the jobs/internships@bronxdefenders.orgaddresses, and collecting, recording and maintaining all application materials and applicant information
- Manage the recruiting and hiring process for all internships at The Bronx Defenders including, but not limited to reviewing all applications, interviewing applicants, selecting successful candidates and oversight of the Summer Internship Program.
- Represent the Bronx Defenders at career fairs and recruitment events, as necessary, to help maintain and develop relationships with law schools, graduate schools, colleges and other organizations
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree, plus a minimum of 3 years work experience at a legal non-profit, law firm, or similar organization
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels from a variety of disciplines
- Interest in and a commitment to social justice issues
- Recruiting and hiring experience strongly preferred.
- Spanish proficiency strongly preferred.
